Refraction of light class 10 | cbse24

The change in direction of light when it passes from one medium to another, is called refraction of light. In other words, the bending of light when it goes from one medium to another obliquely is called refraction of light.

Case1:-Refraction of light when it goes from a Rarer medium to a Denser medium .

Result:-It bends towards the normal

Case2:-Refraction of light when it goes from a Denser medium to a Rarer medium

Result:- It bends away from the normal

Case3:-A ray of light traveling along the normal passes

Result:-Undeflected

∠i=∠r=0

Cause of Refraction :

light travels with different speeds in different media. The bending of light or refraction occur due to the change in the speed of light as it passes from one medium, to another. Larger the change in the speed of light as it passes from one medium to another, the more is the bending due to refraction. The Snell's law of refraction may be written a
