Formation of different types of image by a concave mirror | cbse24

Case1:-Image formed by a concave mirror when the object is placed between pole and focus of the mirror when the object is placed between pole and focus of the mirror(object P and F)

the image formed is

1:-behind the mirror

2:-Virtual and erect

3:-Larger than the object(or magnified)

example:-

1:-A concave mirror being used as  make-up mirror. It is magnifying a part of the face.

2:-Dentist's mirror is small concave mirror. It is magnifying with a long handle. It gives  a magnified image of tooth

3:-A concave mirror can be used to magnified object. Here It is magnifying a matchstick kept close to it.

Case2:-when the object is placed at the focus of a concave mirror(object at F)

When an object is placed at the focus of a concave mirror ,the image formed is

1:-At infinity

2:-Real and inverted

3:-Highly magnified(or highly enlarged)

 Example:-

When lighted bulb is placed at the focus of a concave mirror reflector, the diverging light ray of the bulb are collected by the concave reflector and then reflected to produce a strong parallel-side beam of light

Case3:- when the object is placed between focus and centre of curvature (object between F and C)

The image formed is

1:-Beyond the centre of curvature

2:-Real and inverted

3:-larger than the object(for magnified)

Note:-A real image is always inverted and virtual image is always erect

case4:- when the object is placed at the centre of curvature of a concave mirror(object at c)

Image formed at

1:-At the centre of curvature C

2:-Real and inverted

3:-same size as the object

Case5:-When the object is beyond the centre of curvature of the concave mirror(object beyond C)

The image formed is

1:-Between the focus and entre of curvature

2:-Real and inverted

3:-Smaller than the object(or diminished)

case6:-When object is at ∞

The image formed is

1:-At the focus F

2:-Real and inverted

3:-Much smaller than object(or highly diminished)

Note:-1:-When the object is at focus of concave mirror the image is formed at ∞

2:-When the object is at ∞ the image is formed at the focus of concave mirror.

Uses of concave mirrors:-

1:-Concave mirrors are used as shaving mirror to see a large image of face(it is a make up mirrors)

2:-concave mirror are used as reflectors in torches vehicle head lights and search light to get powerful beam of light.Concave reflector are also used in room heater.

3:-Large concave mirrors are used in the field of solar energy to focus sun's ray for heating solar furnace.

4:-concave dishes are used in TV dish antenna to receive TV signals from the distant communication satellites.
